Our events are organized by the SPU Team, students who collaborate in groups of 3-4 to organize individual debates. The Team is guided by the Executive Board, which consists of the Chair, Vice-Chair of Operations and Planning, Vice-Chair of Rules, and Vice-Chair of Speaker Relations.
SPU events are open to all Stanford students. SUIDs are required.
We use local, national, or international developments as launching points for our event topics. When the news doesn't seem to be controversial enough, we plan events that tackle longstanding issues. We invite input from all students to help us create events that are relevant, substantive, and engaging.
We look for speakers who have unique life experiences that give them an uncommon perspective on the issues and who have a demonstrated background in the subject. Although SPU's focus is on creating dialogue among students, we invite outside speakers and professors to join our events as well.
